2020 Silk Road School New Year Celebration
On the last day of 2019, Silk Road School (SRS) welcomed the New Year with a celebration in Jingzhai Hotel, Renda Hall. It was a night filled with delicious food, performances, games and gifts exchange.
Mr Li Jiugao, Dean of International College and Sino-French Institute and Vice Dean of SRS, Fang Weiwei, Party Secretary of Renmin University of China Suzhou Campus (RUC Suzhou Campus), Mr. Zhou Luohua, Vice Dean of Chongyang Institute of Financial Studies, Mrs. Wang Hongli, Director of SRS General Office, Mr. Chen Chao, Executive Director of International Affairs of RUC Suzhou Campus were present at the occasion.
Also in attendance were Dong Zhenyan, Deputy Director of the Department of Research and Postgraduate Studies of Suzhou Campus, Wang Jing, Deputy Director of the International Development Center of Suzhou Campus, Mrs Zhong Nan, Chinese teacher of SRS, Ms Chen Yan, Ms Jiang Luqiang, Ms Liu Yijing, Ms Zheng Lu, Ms Zhang Mingyu administrative staff of SRS and students of SRS were present that night.
The Host of the night were Kwame and Disha. The night kick-started with a dance performance titled《野狼Disco》by the Chinese students kicked off the celebration. The other performances were a contemporary dance routine performed by Disha from India, Sujala from Bangladesh and Berika from Turkey, a flute recital titled ‘Lover’s Heart’ by Isidore from Senegal and a compilation of songs in different languages with Maria from Pakistan, Daniele from Italy and Isidore. Rafael from Dominican Republic played the guitar and sang ‘Grita’ while Kwame from Ghana thrilled the crowed with an amazing performance of ‘African Queen’ which he coined into ‘SRS Queens’. Gabriel from Liberia sang a Chinese song ‘老鼠爱大米’ and there was a sing-along by the Elementary Chinese Class and their Chinese teacher Ms Zhang for a classic Chinese song titled《朋友》. The performances were a feast to the audiences’ eyes and ears. Besides having the vibrant performances which showcase the essence of the different cultures, there were games that tested the students’ knowledge on China, songs and how well they know their friends.
At 7pm, students and staff of SRS watched the 2020 New Year Speech from President of People’s Republic of China, Xi Jinping. He mentioned that 2020 will be a year that decides the victory on the elimination of poverty. United as one, China shall work harder. The greater the difficulty, the further they will advance. “Human history, like a river, runs forever, witnessing both peaceful moments and great disturbances. We are not afraid of winds and rains or any kind of difficulties. China is determined to walk along the road of peaceful development and will resolutely safeguard world peace and promote common development. We are willing to join hands with people of all countries in the world to build together the Belt and Road Initiative, and push forward the building of a community with a shared future for mankind, and make unremitting efforts for the creation of a beautiful future for mankind.”
Representing the SRS administration, Mdm Wang Hongli gave a toast to everyone and sent her well wishes for the New Year. She affirmed the students’ achievements in 2019 and encouraged them to cherish their time in SRS, to be diligent and disciplined in their studies, so they can reap the rewards of their hardwork and to be the ambassadors of cultural exchange in the world.
Students and staff of SRS will like to wish everyone a Happy New Year.
