Chinese and Foreign Students' Idioms Competition “Learn in China, Learn from Idioms” Completed Successfully

On December 11, Silk Road School (SRS) held a unique “Learning in China, Learn from Idioms” Idioms Competition for Chinese and foreign students. International students from Pakistan, Russia, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, New Zealand and other countries participated in the contest together with Chinese students, aiming to enhance the understanding and love of Chinese traditional culture.

The Idioms Competition set up four rounds including guessing idioms from pictures, writing idioms shown by emojis in relay, filling in the blanks of idioms, and interpreting idioms stories, which comprehensively examined the contestants' knowledge reserves of idioms and their ability to adapt on the spot, and was both knowledge-based and interesting. In “Guessing Idioms from Pictures”, contestants needed to choose the correct idiom based on the pictures provided and explain the meaning of the idiom; in “Writing Idioms shown by emojis in Relay”, contestants needed to guess the idiom based on the emoji sketch and write down the pinyin or Chinese characters; in“Filling in the Blanks of Idioms”, the contestants had to complete the numbers in the idiom according to the meaning of the idiom and the hints from the pictures; in“Interpreting Idiom Stories ”, the contestants had to make the guessers guess the interpreted idioms through the way of silent performance.

These sessions not only tested the players' idiom recognition, writing, expression and association abilities, but also allowed them to gain a deeper understanding of the cultural connotations of idioms. In a tense and enthusiastic atmosphere, Chinese and foreign players collaborated with each other and successfully cracked one problem after another, further deepening their understanding and memorization of idioms in a relaxed and pleasant atmosphere, and appreciating the charm and wisdom of idioms.

After several rounds of fierce competition, the team composed of players from Pakistan, Russia, Sri Lanka and China finally won the “Best Team Award” of the competition by virtue of their excellent performance and tacit cooperation. After the on-site voting, Ru Yi from China won the “Best Individual Award”. At the award ceremony, Prof. Jiang Xiaoli, Deputy Dean of SRS, congratulated the winners and hoped that they would continue to carry forward the traditional Chinese culture and become ambassadors of Chinese and foreign cultural exchanges.

The Chinese and Foreign Students Idioms Competition “Learning in China, Learn from Idioms” is not only a cultural feast, but also a spiritual exchange. Through this competition, Chinese and foreign students not only deepened their understanding and love of traditional Chinese culture, but also enhanced their friendship and mutual understanding. As an important part of Chinese traditional culture, idioms carry profound historical and cultural connotations. The success of this competition not only helps to promote the inheritance and development of Chinese traditional culture, but also provides a platform for Chinese and foreign students to show their talents and exchange learning. It is believed that in the future, more Chinese and foreign students will join in the inheritance and promotion of Chinese traditional culture, and jointly promote the prosperity and development of Chinese culture.
